Legio Duodevigesima was the most significant legion in the imperial era. It was founded by Emperor Augustus in 41 BC. According to Roman history, Augustus was developing this legion to mess with Sextus Pompeius who was one of the fiercest rivalries for his campaigns. But Legio XIX, Legio XVIII, and Legio XVII faced a humiliating defeat in the Battle of Teutoburg Forest. No member was alive of Legio XVIII after the war against Sextus Pompeius. Legio XII Fulminata
Legio Duodecima Fulminata was another popular legion from the days of imperial Rome. There were various nicknames of this legion such as Galliena, Paterna, Certa Constans, etc. This legion was established by Caesar in 58 BC, especially for the Gallic Wars. The Fulminata legion was favorite for Caesar because it comprises of various superiors commanders and generals. Caesar even won the Battle of Pharsalus with the help of this legion. Germanica Legion (Favourite Roman Legion Of Augustus)
Julius Caesar was the creator of the Germanica Legion. This legion took part in the campaign against Pompey. This legion comprises of various German soldiers and a few Roman men. Germanica legion was the only unit that consists of Germans more than Romans. This legion also took part in Caesar’s campaign against Sextus Pompeius. Then a few decades later, this legion joined hands with Augustus against the Cantabrians. After Cantabrians wars, many commanders of this legion retired due to severe health conditions. This legion was active until 70 AD. Later Emperor Vespasian concluded this legion.
